Luke Berguson, DPT
Physical Therapist

Hello! My name is Luke. I’m from cow country, AKA Mansfield, PA where I grew up on a beef farm. In high school, I was always very active. My 2 favorite sports were football and basketball. After graduating from high school, I started my college career at Lebanon Valley College (LVC) where I played 4 years of college basketball for the Flying Dutchmen and was a captain my senior year.

A little bit about my personal life, I have 3 older brothers, and we all helped out with the cows around the farm growing up and enjoyed playing sports together. No, one of my favorite pastimes was NOT cow tipping... In my free time I like watching college and professional basketball and football, playing basketball, and hanging out with close friends. A unique fact about me is that during my Sports Residency in Mansfield, I trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in which I am a 3 stripe white belt. I have competed in a North American Grappling Association (NAGA) competition and got 2nd place!

I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in 2015 and I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical therapy (DPT) in 2017. In addition to playing basketball, I also held a work study position as a student athletic training aide/first responder where I had the opportunity to work with student athletes at LVC under the guidance of athletic trainers. It was such a cool opportunity to be on the sidelines and then jump into action when one of our athletes got injured. I always wondered it would be like to be one of those people after watching numerous NFL games throughout the years (Go Steelers).

In my final semester of PT school, I had a 16 week clinical rotation here at Madden where I learned a plethora of hands on physical therapy techniques that are effective at decreasing pain and improving function in patients. It was a tough 16 weeks (Joe’s a tough teacher) but obviously, I really enjoyed my time here because….I’m back!

After graduation, I was accepted into the Saint Francis University Sports Residency program where I was placed back in my hometown of Mansfield working with the athletes at Mansfield University and at an outpatient clinic in town. During my residency I had the opportunity to rehab injured athletes, make practice/game preparations, perform venue coverage, observe an orthopedic surgeon on a weekly basis, help teach a sports elective to DPT students at Saint Francis University, present at multiple conferences and meetings, and further refine my knowledge and skills as a PT with various mentoring opportunities and lab practice under the guidance of a sports and orthopedic certified specialist . I guess you could say, they kept me pretty busy while I was there…

This residency provided me with unique knowledge and skill sets on the most effective management of athletes from acute injuries and all the way through the rehab process back to returning to competition. While I won’t be treating too many athletes here at Madden PT, these skills will help me to identify what is causing your pain much faster. Athletes are some of the toughest patients out there. They want nothing but to return to their sport ASAP. I had to be quick on my feet, and my treatments had to be effective. I think what I bring to the table at Madden PT, is that ability to pinpoint what is the best treatment option for you relatively quickly.

I’m excited to be here and to start helping out those in the Harrisburg area heal naturally!
